Labiaplasty
Labiaplasty is a procedure to surgically reduce the outer folds of the female labia or to address asymmetry, which can help with sexual function, discomfort and appearance.
Women’s bodies and labia come in all shapes and sizes. The labia minora and labia majora grow during puberty and vary greatly in thickness, shape and size. If the labia minora are particularly enlarged women can find them uncomfortable, embarrassing, and in some cases it can affect sexual function. Changes due to childbirth, weight loss, or ageing and menopause can also cause tears and stretching.
For many women experiencing this discomfort, irritation or concerns about appearance of the vulva area, labiaplasty can be a surgical option.
About the Procedure
Labiaplasty is a surgical procedure that is completely unique to each individual patient, their anatomy and their specific concerns.
The objective of the procedure is to improve the function of the genital and vulva area as well as achieve the desired look and resolve any irritation issues.
The procedure is performed under anaesthesia in a hospital, and a local anaesthetic is used to minimise any patient discomfort after the procedure. Following the surgery patients can return home after a few hours.
There may be some discomfort after the first few days but this is generally resolved within a week.
Vaginoplasty
Many women feel that following childbirth, menopause or as part of the natural ageing process, their pelvic floor and vagina feel enlarged, stretched or looser than usual. This can lead to problems with uterine prolapse, incontinence and dissatisfaction with sexual intercourse.
Vaginoplasty (also known as Vaginal Rejuvenation), is a standard gynaecological process of tightening and rejuvenating the vagina. It tightens vagina muscles and surrounding soft tissues, by reducing excess vaginal lining (vaginal mucosa) this is what results in an immediate decrease in the vagina muscles. Sometimes vaginoplasty is referred to as the face-lift for the vagina.
Vaginoplasty is commonly sought after as a means of enhancing the female patient and her partner’s sex life. As this procedure typically tones and strengthens the vagina muscles resulting in greater strength and control it thereby permits greater sensation during sexual intercourse.
Following the procedure, women may feel greater tightness and sensation in the vaginal area, and therefore satisfaction during sex.
About the Procedure
The procedure is completed as a day case or overnight stay in a hospital. To perform the procedure Dr Knight will first take a full medical history and assess your pelvic floor and vagina to determine your suitability for the procedure.
The pelvic floor and vaginal wall muscles are then reconstructed by removing a portion of tissue and then repaired with stitching.
The area generally heals quickly within two weeks and reabsorbable stitches are used so no stitches require removal after the procedure.
